Thanks & a few funnies to make you smile…

Oh my goodness what an interesting last few days, they have made me feel like I belong with this bunch of Beauties...

This weekend began with me posting the first chapter of My True Romance on my blog, boy was I not prepared for how vulnerable and sensitive it would make me feel, to expose myself so honestly was far more challenging than I anticipated. I knew it would be challenging but I actually felt quite teary and became overwhelmed with the sneaking sensation that I had actually finally become completely certifiable and was completely alone in my need to share...Why on earth was I doing this? Why share such a personal journey with whoever wanted to read what I had to say…
... and then people started commenting and sending me messages and all of them were of encouragement and thanks for my bravery and a lovely read… and as your messages came in, slowly my anxiety was washed away and now it has been replaced more and more with a sense of  absolute gratitude…. I am so grateful to all of you, for your support, so I thought as a 'Thank You', I would put up a few funnies to make you smile and say have a fantastic week…
I will write a little more later in the week about how dating life is going but for now its time to smile :-) enjoy!

THAT'S YOU!
SO
THANK YOU!
NOW...

Pay it forward blog coming soon, have an amazing week filled with laughter and warmth :-)

"My True Romance - Chapter 1 Meeting 'Royalty'"

Meeting 'Royalty'

Isn't life just like that, so ironic, on Sunday I decided to make a deal with myself, as you know, 12 dates, stay single for three months (So that I can say I have been single for a full year) and keep an open mind and do Not get into a relationship until the time is up. So of course the very first date I go on since I make this decision (which one of my good friends sets up) is with a man which just happens to tick way too many box's... so many, that I get icicles on my toes and feel like doing my usual which is run as quickly as possible and hide!
I guess I haven't told you the full story... let me explain. My last relationship, well the last two relationships, to be fair, broke my heart so badly that ... since then I have been so petrified of letting anyone remotely close to me that I run... I was in a ten-year relationship with an incredible man that was unbearably wrong for me... to a devastating point. When I finally left him I completely fell apart because I lived for him and without him my life was shattered into a million little pieces, I literally had to learn to breathe again, to wake up and find meaning in an abyss with no light ... and it took me three and a half years more, of on and off again chances of desperately trying to make it work but it couldn't... then I fell straight into another relationship for four months, which also shattered me.
(if you've had your heart broken you know, it physically aches, you are in physical agony)

It has been a four-year journey of depletion and finding strength I never knew I had, and then going back and destruction and then discovery that I had grown stronger and then leaving sooner and then going back until finally I realized I was in charge of my own happiness and I deserved to be happy... I was desperately flogging a dead horse because I loved him so much and wanted it to be right so badly... but it wasn't and nothing I could ever do could change that... So that is the real reason why I have been single for the last nine months and that is also the reason why I am needing to summon up so much courage to be dating again...
(I mean I could end up with this guy! Eeek!)

The incredible thing is, I am the strongest happiest version of myself that I have ever been and for the first time in my life I am standing on my own two feet, happily independent and strong and filled with comfort and joy because I know that I am happy and I am worth loving, which I had never known before. So now if someone comes into my life, they will be a delicious cherry on top, but not a necessity. They will add to my happiness but not be my happiness, they will be a partner, not my reason for being. And the strangest thing is, I don't feel damaged, I feel like I'm finally healed. Like i was broken before the relationships and every single step has led me here to this happy place in my life where I am finally whole and healthy. And I love my life, daily I devour all its joys and am grateful for where I am. I drive everyone mad because I am so positive now, in fact my nick name is "Little Miss F*%ken Sunshine" ha ha haa.

So Back to "Chapter 1 Meeting 'Royalty'", he insisted on picking me up (tick) but I was going to meet some friends at a fantastic little get together where we all were knitting blankets for an orphanage (I will do a blog on this because it's such a fantastic cause and brilliant way to Pay it Forward) So he said he would join! I thought he was joking at first but he wasn't! Can you believe it??? So this tall stranger with a large smile joined me and a whole bunch of woman and sat and knitted with us (tick, tick, tick) are you kidding me?
(Me and lovely Lorna knitting up a storm)

All the ladies were blown away! Good move, Mister, not only did he win points with me but with every woman there! We then went for dinner at a lovely Italian place in Mouille Point. We didn't stop talking and the more we spoke the more we had to speak about. It was really wonderful, like really wonderful and absolutely petrifying!

(Nuff said)

I of course ate like I always do, like a baby dinosaur, spilling my food on the table and awkwardly not managing to cover it up. He laughed and told me it was endearing.
 (Really? Ya right....)

We were the last table and so we went for tea and hot chocolate at the hotel by the waterfront. We sat by the fire and ate sweet crunchies (I always seem to be eating ha ha) and suddenly I looked and it was 2am! I said I really needed to go home, he laughter and said: "No, Thank You, more please!" (I told him about the film "Thank you more please" there's a story in it about a cab driver who tells a sad woman to create happiness she needs to be grateful, she needs to say "Thank You" and then she needs to add "More please". I love this story and saying "Thank You, more please" its wonderfully infectious, and he seemed to like it too) which made me smile and feel all blushy, flattered and ... happy.
(but don't, i like blushing...)

He was an absolute gentleman, really lovely and understanding (when I told him my three month bargain and what I was doing and the reasons why, he just smiled and said he completely understood and I could see he actually did) Oh how scary... meeting a mister tick, tick, tick. He has been in plenty of contact and I have even seen him again, Already! I know, madness. Although honestly, I really am petrified so I want to keep a little distance and really stick to my plan and be open but take things very, very, slowly... Please send me strength and luck, I think I really need it!

(Try it, I dare you!)

SO...
The DO's I learnt: "Listen and hear"
I have always believed that if you actually take the time to listen and actually hear what people are trying to tell you, you will learn something new from every single person you meet, from a billionaire to a beggar, to the guy standing in the bank queue, each and every human being you encounter has something valuable to share, so pay attention. This date was filled with those moments, he had such a lovely way of putting things and not many people do this to me but he showed me a different perspective which made me blush  with embarrassment (in a good way) that I had never looked at a situation from that point of view and I will forever be changed (it has to do with my family being a fruit salad of different beliefs, I will actually write a blog just about this soon)
So the do for this week is "Listen and hear" because you will learn something new
and...

The DON'T I learnt: "Mmm.... shew....don't rush things"

So terribly lame, but this date was great, the only thing "wrong with it" was that it is that it was so lovely and so there is that tendency to dive in head first instead of taking things slowly. But thanks to my consuming fear and the deal I have made with myself, I will be taking it slow...

The thing is, that I am not doing this out of some urgency to find 'The One', I am challenging myself to be open enough to the possibility of discovery love again... it's an openness I am trying to achieve, not a need I am trying to fill.

Thank you so much to everyone for your amazing encouragement and feed back, my cup truly runneth over, please keep it coming and share my blog with your friends. And please write to me and share your best dating/love stories, worst dating/love stories, most romantic, whatever you feel like sharing, if it moves me to laughter or tears I will post Your Story in my Blog.

I have a panel of friends who will be deciding who I go on dates with, so if anyone (this is sooo embarrassing, thanks again Sean) would like to go on a date with me, e-mail me your version of a "I'm the one to Date" CV and a recent pic info@susanakennedy.com (I wish the ground would open up and swallow me whole, so embarrassing, cant believe I agreed to do this, I really hope someone writes in! Eek!)

My True Romance - The Beginning...

Ok boy's and girls here I go... I have made a decision and I am going to be bolder than bold, I am going to be honest and venerable and brave and let you all in on my new adventure.
I have had a boy friend since I was this big...
(excuse the seemingly lazy eye, it was poised for a wink
and the photo was taken mid flow, just saying, you should know)

Yip I am a serial "in-relashionship-er" it just seems that whenever a relationship has ended I have started dating the very next guy I have met. Now that I see it in writing, it kinda sounds a little awkward or, well not great really, truly I have never been alone... You see I have always believed that every human being contains both the possibility for extraordinary deeds and awful actions, exceptional gifts and frightful flaws... and when I meet someone I always seem to focus on their gifts and potential and help them develop, often ignoring the bad until, well until it gets too bad and I have to leave....
('Yeah, baby, work it you doing well, you getting there, you're amazing!')

Hence I have always dated men for their potential...and since I realized that, I started thinking back over all my relationships (no there aren't that many) but I am the real life female version of "Good Luck Chuck".
     (Yip thats me)

Every single guy I have dated since I was sixteen, has married and had babies with the very next girl he dated (one is in a serious relationship with the same woman but hasn't had kid's yet, yet being the operative word in that sentence)... I'm a fix-a. Also visually they have looked as different as the four corners of the earth, the only qualities they share (which are essential to any man I am with) is having a large generous spirit and great sense of humor, but that is about it.

In the past I have dated for potential, but now I want to find someone that I want to be with, for who he is already...Yip, I want a guy who isn't afraid to wear his underpants over his pants in public ha ha haa! Kidding;-) I also want to choose someone who will be good for me, rather than finding the good in the first man I meet...
(Henry Cavill would definitely be good for me, although I might become a mute as
my tongue would constantly be hanging out of my mouth due to the excess drool)

So here begin's my challenge, in three months I will have been single for a year, I want to be able to say that I have been single for one full year in my life (as lame as that sounds, I want to be able to say it) as a bonus this way it takes the pressure off the dates because there are no expectations of finding "the one", I will go on all these dates with an open mind and open heart and ready to actually get to know the person and let them get to know me. I will go on one date per week with someone new (Sox I might hand the task of finding me suitable suitors over to some of my girl friends, so that it becomes something like the website "date my friend"). Each week I will blog about it and give honest feed back. I will also commit to, not getting into a relationship with anyone until my three months are up. (and I guess, if I meet the "right guy" in the mean time, he will still be around after three months, or he wasn't the right guy) ... and the last little challenge (thank you Sean :-P dammit I can that I cant turn down a dare!) I have agreed that I will go on a date with one of my followers, Eek! But as Sean says: "Be daring, ya never know" So - Challenge accepted!

So thats it peep's a sneak peak into my very venerable self, wish me luck and send me stories. Stay well and happy till next you read
"My True Romance - Chapter 1
Meeting 'Royalty'"

***If you would like to go on a date with me I will be putting up a friend of mine's details and she will give me the brief on the "how, of how to get a date with Susana!" Looking forward to meeting you!

Have a super day :-)

Spread the joy, Pay it forward...

Pay it forward...

To tell or not to tell... that is the question

I would like to say I try and pay it forward once a week, but the reality is, I just do pay it forward whenever I find myself in a situation where I can. Realistically it varies from once in a while to a few times in a day. For me, paying it forward means going out of your way (whether it is slightly or in a large way out way) to help someone else without expecting anything in return.
I also often don't tell anyone when life allows me these little opportunities; I like them to remain my little secrets... I also do things to help others where I need assistance from sponsors etc and then I do tell people because it’s necessary. I was at a function the other evening and we were talking about paying it forward and a lovely friend of mine, who is a mom, and lets be honest mom's are usually right, well she  said its important to tell these stories because they inspire others and teach children the joys of doing things for others, because you can. It is good to show that you are being the change, it inspire's others...
I think we are both right, she's right its great to inspire and teach and I guess I'm also a little right I think keeping a few little gems for myself is right too, because then there is truly no reward, no one gushes and says how sweet or kind you are... but inside you know you have affected someone else’s day or life in a positive way...
What I think is the most important thing at the end of the day,
is that you stay aware, keep an open heart and whenever possible you pay it forward...
Spread the joy :-)

Bowled Over - Dating Do's and Don'ts for This week

As you all know I am "The 2OceansVibe Bachelorette",
So I’m checking out the dating world and figuring out the good, the bad and the ugly.
In the last two weeks I have been traveling quite a bit so I went on two
"off the record" dates, but I still felt it wouldn't be fair if I didn't give you feed back on the do's and don'ts, so lets chat about...

Date 1: THE SOBER DATE
Oiy Vey!
Although my nerves where on overdrive at the thought of going on a date in the first place, (still haven't gotten them under wraps)
arriving at a bowling ally and finding out I would be proceeding without any Dutch courage to ease the nerves for the evening’s road ahead was quite a large gulp to swallow.
We were in the last lane and I think it was Pro-Practice evening because this is what our neighbors looked like...
My date was an ex-pro-bowler (Yip, he even belonged to a team ha ha, I know I laughed when I heard that too!) but he was very supportive and not a big show off
which made me feel more relaxed.
He made me feel like I looked like this...
When really, I looked like this...
Still I wish I looked like this....
but being the clumsy klutz I am I slipped and landed Slap Bam on my bum...
Yip, Epic Fail... not pretty....
but he made me feel like I looked like this....
Which isn't sooo bad and won him major points
and so we laughed it off and had a great time.
When I hit 7 he gave me a hi-5 and I did something like this...
Yip, thats me, total spaz.

Then taught me how to play 'Air Hockey', what fun!
Now here we got competitive and ended with an even score,
slightly sweaty and breathless from the thrill of the challenge,
it was great, I felt like a kid!
We ended the evening by sitting at a coffee shop and talking...
before I knew it, it was twenty to one in the morning and
I needed to head home as I had a big week ahead.
SO...
The DO's I learnt: "Get out of your comfort zone"
Do something fun out of your comfort zone, it forces people to be real and let down their defenses, you get to see layers of who they really are, rather than what they might want to present at a civilized dinner across a table.
and...
The DON'T I learnt: "Old fashioned meets Too cool"
I am kinda old fashioned in the dating world, yes I am career driven and independent but I am not that girl who call's a guy first or asks him out. I want to be with someone who is crazy about me, I want to be thought of, I want someone who makes an effort, effort goes a very long way in my books. So my advice guys, if you like a girl, don't play it cool, let her know.
This guy claims he has been wanting to date me for ages and that I am blind and uninterested in his advances, but really I think he wants me to chase him, and thats just not my game, I am a woman not a man, yes its old fashioned but men do the hunting...
in my romantic world anyway.
So to conclude, I had a great time, it was fun and as ridiculous as it sounds, I really recommend going bowling on a date, who knows, you could strike it lucky!
